We post here updates related to our linux shared and dedicated hosting services

Server Reboot Planned for Sunday Night

As a regular server maintenance procedure, we will perform a hard reboot on Sunday (March 25, 2007) at 23:00 MST (Mountain Standard Time) for our DirectAdmin server - this will not affect our cPanel server. It only takes about 10 minutes or even less if everthing goes well as planned.

Network Upgrade at Datacenter for Our DirectAdmin Servers

Today (Thursday, March 15, 2007), between 6.00 PM and 7.00 PM MST (mountain standard time), the datacenter for our DirectAdmin servers will connect Level 3 to their network as part of their continous and long term strategy of improving connectivity. Testing outside the network has been proved sucessfully in the past two weeks.

Downtime is expected to be less than 1-2 minutes.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Datacenter to Upgrade Network

Tuesday, January 16 starting at 6:30 to 7:30 PM (Mountain Time), the datacenter is going to upgrade their network. During this service period short instances of slow connectivity or momentarily loss of connectivity might occur.

Currently, they are in the process of expanding and consolidating the entire infrastructure and network by adding 2 more carriers and implementing more infrastructure hardware. We will keep you posted.

Server Reboot Planned for Tomorrow

As a regular server maintenance procedure, we will perform a server reboot on Thursday (September 7, 2006) at 23:00 MST (Mountain Standard Time). It only takes about 10 minutes or even less.

Support and Billing Script Upgrade Planned

We are going to upgrade the support and billing script that is installed at http://www.selfwebhosting.ws/orders stating from 23:00 MST (Mountain Standard Time) tomorrow (May 18, 2006). We expect the upgrade process to take about 30 minutes to complete.

During this time no new orders can be taken and the entire client billing and support area will be taken offline. If you need to contact us, please write to “support AT selfwebhosting.com” during this time. We apologize for any inconvenience that this upgrade may cause you.

Note that this script upgrade will not affect the operation of our servers whatsoever. So you will not see your site down during this time.

Domain Registrations at SelfWebHosting

We just learned from Esate-Virtual.com/MegiWeb.com that they are going to close part of their business that is assoicated with Estate-Virtual.com - MegiWeb.com is operating as usual.

Since some of our clients have their domain names registered with Estate-Virtual.com, we would like these owners to transfer your domains to us because of the following benefits:

  1. You remain to be the owner of your domain(s);
  2. Yet we are responsible for making sure that your DNS settings are set up correctly and resolved to the server that is hosting your website(s);
  3. The transfer fee is as low as $12, which includes automatic one-year extension from the currrent expiry date of your domain(s).

To start the domain transfer process, please click the following link:

http://www.selfwebhosting.ws/orders/transcheck.php

Although you can transfer your domain(s) to MegiWeb.com or any one of the registrars out there, you (not we) will be responsible for the DNS settings to make sure your domain(s) point to our server correctly.

Relocation of Datacenter Planned

The datacenter that hosts our dedicated servers have outgrown their current facilities. In order to continue providing high quality hosting services, it is necessary to relocate the datacentre to larger and better premises. The new datacentre have been furnished with top of the range equipment from leading vendors to provide us with the most modern environment.

This new facility hosts a large number of international quality carriers who will be at our disposal.

The Plan for Move
============

The new datacentre is now ready for our servers to be physically relocated.

On Friday, March 24, at 1:30 MST (Mountain Standard Time), they will start relocating our servers to their new home. Unavailability of your site(s) is expected to be maximum 2 hours.

Since the relocation will start shortly after midnight and finish around 3:30 MST in the morning, you and your site visitors will most unlikely notice the down of your site during this move.

The Benefits
========

While planning the migration to their new datacenter facility, the network architects, and hard- and software engineers have taken the opportunity to develop more features and products:

  • Availability of affordable high powered SUN servers (X2100,X4100) with CentOS, OpenSuSE, OpenBSD, Debian Sarge and more.
  • The availability of dedicated unmetered 10mbps pipes.
  • VLAN configuration in your Control Center
  • New and improved network infrastructure
  • Complete new Reboot System
  • Move Primary and Secondary IP’s among servers assigned to your Control Center
  • Improved connectivity
  • Release of Linux CentOS 4.2

What You Need to Do?
===============

Nothing! This is just a move of the servers physical location, similar to moving your home computer from one room to another. All IPs and nameservers remain the same. No need for you to do anything from your end. You just wait and see your site loads up at a higher speed when the move is finished!

The Recommendations
===============

We will contact you on Monday 20/3/06 with detailed information related to this
relocation.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at https://www.selfwebhosting.ws/orders/contact.php

We apologise for any inconvenience, and we would like to take the opportunity
to thank you for your co-operation.

Finished Transferring All Clients to Our New Billing System

Done for all existing clients!

This task took more time than we thought. We have clients who are on several different kind of hosting packages and their sites on different servers. For some clients, we need to verify and re-verify their payments and payment terms. For others we took the effort to streamline all important logins…

Anyway, we have finished the this tedious task and have moved all clients over to this new billing and support area:

www.selfwebhosting.ws/orders

Existing clients please login to this new billing and support area to check all entries to make sure they are correct. If there is anything incorrect, please let us know immediately. Also we need your feedback on the new system. Do you like it? Is it easy for you find your way there? Anything that needs to be modified and improved? Please add your feedback as a comment to this post or send it to us via this contact form:

http://www.selfwebhosting.ws/orders/contact.php

No need to login to be able to use the above contact form and it logs your message into our system and sends a copy of your message to our support staff.

Note the followings about our new billing and support area…

(1) This is the area that you should go if you need support from us. You can submit, view and add to a support ticket after login.

(2) For clients who were in our Advanced Web Hosting package in the past, we have assigned your hosting accounts to cPanel Hosting in the new system.

Transfer of Clients from Old Billing System to New

Just to let you know we are transfering all our clients from the old client billing system (located at www.selfwebhosting.com/services) to the new (located at www.selfwebhosting.ws/orders).

To streamline logins for each client account, we are going to assign a username that is the same as your main hosting account. Should you set the password the same as your hosting account, you could use the same login form we will display throughout our website to login to all these areas:

(1) Client Billing and Support
(2) Server Control Panel
(3) siteZen Online Site Builder

So starting from now, you will receive at least one email message from our new client billing and support system as soon as we finish the transfer of your data into the new system. The email will contain login username, password and URL.

Server Control Panel: cPanel to Config Redirection

For sites hosted on our new dedicated server, we have added a yourdomain.com/cpanel to yourdomain.com/config redirection function. Looks like someone is still used to type yourdomain.com/cpanel to access the new control panel :-)

This could be used as a good test to see if your website has resolved to the new server yet. If you type this in your browser address area…

yourdomain.com/config

and you get a 404 (file not found) error or you are redirected to this page:

http://selfwebbuilding.com/suspended.page/

then this indicates that your domain has not resolved to the new server yet.

If you type this…

yourdomain.com/config

or this…

yourdomain.com/cpanel

and both redirect to…

http://yourdomain.com:2222/

that is a sign that your domain has fully resolved to the new server.
