We post here updates related to our linux shared and dedicated hosting services

Update on Existing Server and New Dedicated Server

OK, our upline provider has finished the final touch for the recovery of last week’s server downtime - that explains why your site was again down for 30 minutes or so. Turned out that a wrong drive was used at the data center :-( Now they have recovered everything, including your cPanel login pwd :-)

About the setup of our own new dedicated server, it is now running! So far two sites are already running on this server:

www.selfwebhosting.ws
www.ecovergenerators.com

The first one above is the future home of our main site and the second one is a site we use to test the transfer of it from our shared server to this new dedicated server.

Now we have finished installing a control panel for sites located on this server. No, we are not using cPanel. The control panel we use for this server is called “DirectAdmin” and it is much easier to use than cPanel :-) To learn more about this control panel, please go here:

http://www.directadmin.com
http://www.site-helper.com

The DirectAdmin site provides demo for admin/reseller/user level. Run the demo there for the user level as it will be the same level you get after we have transferred your site to this new server.

We have also installed the popular siteZen site builder on this server so that all of you can use it to build/rebuild your site with it. To learn more about siteZen builder, please go to:

http://www.sitemagix.com

Make sure you check their live demo to see how it works.

We are now in the process of transferring all sites on the shared server to the new dedicated server. Do not worry, you do not need to update your DNS now and your site visitors will not notice this transfer as everything is hidden now. We keep your existing accounts on the shared server unchanged. We just make a copy of your site on the server and this new copy can only be accessed from an-IP based URL.

We expect to finish all the site transfer within 24 hours as we have found a script to do it semi-manually :-)

Once we finish the transfer and test to make sure everything works fine on the new server, then we will update the name servers we have registered from our side. This approach saves your trouble having to update DNS from your side. So basically you do not need to do anything. We will let your access your site on the new server (based on an IP address) before we update DNS from our side. This way you have a say whether you would like your site visitors to see your site on the new server :-)

If you have any questions or concerns, please write to us or add your comments here (by clicking the comment link). Thank you!

Standard Account Server UP

You may have noticed this already if you keep track of your site status.

Yes! Thanks to the hard work of our host technicians, the server hosting our Standard Package accounts is now up and running!

Please check your site to see if we have missed anything.

Note that you may not be able to login to your cPanel and FTP because we have reset all the passwords during the recovery process.

Despite this good news about this shared server, we are determined to replace it with the dedicated server we are installing. We will keep you updated about this new server.

How to Subscribe to the RSS Feed of this Blog

Because of the increasing problem of email spams, we highly recommend that you subscribe to the RSS feed of this blog so that you automatically receive our important updates such as Server Status and Maintenance notices.

You can use any of the subscribe buttons displayed on the right menu to add the feed of this blog to your favorite platofrm. Or you can read on for ways to automatically receive an update whenever we add it to this blog.

Here is how to do it using Mozilla’s Thunderbird email client program (Outlook Express does not have this feature yet :-( )

If you have already had a “RSS News & Blogs” account in your Thunderbird, you should use these simple steps to ADD this blog feed to it:

1. Find and right-click the name of this “RSS News & Blogs” account from the left menu.

2. Select “Properties…” and a new window will pop up

3. Click on the button “Manage Subscriptions…” and another smaller window should pop up

4. Click on the “Add” button and you will be able to enter the RSS feed URL of this blog: http://selfwebhosting.com/update/feed/. Note that this is the feed URL for all categories. If you would like to get the feed URL for a particular category, just move your mouse over the category link and copy its hyperlink. When you ready to paste the link to the RSS feel URL field, just append /feed/ to the end of the link. Take for example, the link to the Server Status|Maintenance category is http://selfwebhosting.com/update/category/server-status-maintenance/ so its feed URL is http://selfwebhosting.com/update/category/server-status-maintenance/feed.

5. Select “Show the article summary instead of loading the web page” and then click “OK” - done!

If you have just downloaded and installed Thunderbird, following the steps below to create a “RSS News & Blogs” account where you can store our updates:

1. Click from Thunderbird menu in this sequence: File > New > Account

2. A new account setup window pops up. Select “RSS News & Blogs” and click “Next“

3. Enter an account name, say, “RSS News & Blogs“

4. Click the “Finish” button to save and exit

Once you have created a “RSS News & Blogs” account this way, you can follow the above steps to ADD our blog feed URL to your blog subscriptions.

Standard Account Server Down

The server that hosts our Standard Packages is now experiencing a down time again - second time in a roll!

While we are waiting our upline provider to fix the problem, we are in the process of setting up a dedicated server - yes, a dedicated server that is much better than the one that hosts our Advanced hosting accounts.

We have got the server up and are in the process of installing control panels for the server. Once the server is fully ready, we will duplicate existing hosting accounts on this server.

We will post any news here about the existing server and the progress of the new server.

Sorry we cannot use our previous siteupdate blog as it was installed on the same server that is down :-(

Thank you!

Thank you for dropping by. Please browse what we have posted here on this blog.
